Silverfish

Silverfish are small, wingless insects with a distinctive silvery-grey colour and tapered, fish-like shape. They are nocturnal and fast-moving, often found in dark, damp areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and loft spaces. Silverfish feed on starchy materials and proteins, including paper, cardboard, wallpaper glue, fabrics, and even food items like flour and cereals.

Although silverfish do not spread disease, their feeding habits can cause significant damage to household items, documents, books, and clothing. They thrive in humid environments and can survive for months without food, making them a persistent pest once established.

Signs of a silverfish infestation include seeing the insects themselves, noticing small irregular holes or yellow stains on paper and fabrics, and finding their droppings, which look like tiny black pepper grains. Reducing moisture and using professional treatments can help eliminate an infestation and prevent future problems.
